365 – Perhaps a Clove Hitch Knot would work also?

I was a Boy Scout, but I just couldn't wrap my mind around the various knots you were supposed to know how to tie and, more importantly, when and how to use each of them. I didn't last long. :) By the way, we last saw Earl and Chuck here.

Here's a question for you all: what features would you like to see on this site? I don't mean characters or storylines. I mean functional portions of the site, like searchable archives, transcription, etc. I'd like to have the site redesigned and I'm looking for suggestions on what you'd all like to see. Thanks!

Take care,
~Rob

  1. Heh heh heh… Dunno why, I just lked this post.

I like the idea of archives. I’d also quite like to see more character profiles, and maybe a fanart section (If theres enough Fanart)

  2. Its always nice to see a familiar face or two when you’ve been away for awhile, isn’t it?
Earl and Chuck definetly add a nice touch to the strip.
Poor Jaine, she still isn’t giving her dad enough credit I see. Hasn’t occurred to her yet the he likes messing with her.
Regarding the site? Archives are always good.
Maybe a section loaded with the lore of this world. [ I’m a lore junkie…which slows me down when I do online games like WoW,and such ]

  3. Searchable archives is a big plus. A lore or encyclepedia section would be a nice section as well.

So the teleportation spell was targeted to that point in the castle. That would be a great way to send LEP Recon (Light Elven Patrol Reconisance) to scout areas and possibly take out the leadership of various kingdoms and armies.

  4. Earl and Chuck are going to become desensitized to screaming elven bards poofing in with large half-orc warriors. This shall be their undoing. On the plus side, it sure does break the monotony of pulling guard duty.

  5. Speaking of guard duty, pardon a brief rant. My wife and I re-watched “Return of the King” last night. Remember the part where the Steward of Gondor is trying to burn Faramir alive, and Pippin is trying to save him? Are those two guards by the door to the inner sanctum the WORST GUARDS EVER or what? How many times does someone come barging in to stop the proceedings while the guards just stand there, or move aside?! Gandalf even GRABS the SPEAR out of one guard’s HAND and assaults the king with it! Worst. Guards. Ever.

Sorry, had to get that off my chest. 🙂

  6. An archives page is always a good idea when the comic is getting bigger(100 pages and more). A lore page could be good too.

  7. It wouldn’t be of much help to me now since I’ve caught up to current in the archives but when I was plowing through from the beginning I would have been delighted with 1) the ability to move backward and forward using the left and right arrow keys and 2) “bookmark this page” and “go to bookmarked page” buttons.

  8. Dates on the archive,… that way we not only have the comic number but the date as well,…. that way when you do things like the above comic referencing a previous comic you can date it or whatever for easier location,….

  9. A little bit more complicated…
If you could change comics without reloading the whole page (and ads if it doesn’t hurt) through javascript and AJAX. It would help with speed and bandwidth for those few with limited connections.

  10. shortening the urls, right now its meatshield.net/archive/365-perhaps-a-clove-hitch-knot-would-work-also/ while meatshield.net/365 would do the same thing but shorter

  11. I’ll just add my vote for archive pages based on story arc.

Transcriptions (and Translations) are a labor of love, and you need a champion for those to work. Searchable is really on useful if you have transcriptions.
The Cast page could use some updating to include more of Jaine’s family, etc.

  12. *impediment*

(Sorry. I was just going through this section, and the error finally popped out at me. And I used to be in the newspaper business.)
